Setting Goals for Yourself and Practice them.

Welcome back! If you are new, Welcome. As we continue to talk about Suicide Awareness and Prevention let’s talk about a new self care tip. This week we are talking about Setting Goals for Yourself and Practicing them.

It is important that we work on setting goals to not only motivate us but to keep us focused on what we want for ourselves. Its not about what everyone else wants for us. It is what we want. Writing goals is can be good for you because it allows you to write lists and sometimes we need a list to check off and help us to see what we have accomplished especially when we are feeling as though we are not getting anything done.

What setting goals is not… Setting goals does not mean we need to set a deadline to get it done. Its about getting them done and not giving up. Setting a deadline can get in our way because we can have obstacles preventing us from getting our goals met and accomplished. Setting a deadline can often lead to us feeling like a failure if we don’t meet it by the time we had set it in our mind.

Be realistic with yourself. If you have a lot going on and you need to put off your goal temporarily know that its okay. Set the goal over and over until you get it done. Set monthly goals and be real with yourself. Know that its okay to have set backs.
